牛津 8A Unit2  Main task 教學設計                                       
 
A. Analysis of the teaching material 
Student Book 8A Unit 2 is about school life, which the students are familiar with. This lesson mainly teaches students to write about their ideal school by learning a passage about ideal school. It’s a good sample for students to follow. It is very close to Ss’ life and I am sure all of the students have something to say and write about their school life. So listening, speaking, reading and writing are all included in this lesson. It practices Ss’ ability to select the useful information to use English to write about their ideal school. 
B. Analysis about the students 
    The Grade 8 students seem to be lack of rich vocabulary and can’t use English to express themselves and communicate with each other well. Some of them aren’t active or brave enough in class because they’re afraid of making mistakes. However they’ve learnt English for over 5 years. They’re able to read simple texts and express themselves in simple English. The topic is close to their daily life. They have different ideas about their school life. The students are familiar with it. The topic really arouses students’ interest. Students would like to talk about their ideal school to their friends or classmates. According to their psychological and physical features , teenagers have a good sense of competition. They’re curious about new knowledge. And they have strong desires for performance. Teachers should encourage the Ss to be active and brave enough to use English to think and express themselves. What’s more, teachers should help Ss write about their ideal school. They can work well in groups and have competitions among groups. C. Teaching aims 
   According to the New English Standard Curriculum, teachers should help the Ss get to know the importance of learning English, develop Ss’ ability to do self-study and cooperation, form effective strategy of learning English. I design the teaching aims as following: 
1 Knowledge Aim: Help the Ss understand the passage by listening, let the Ss know how to write about their school life. 
2 Ability Aim: Develop Ss’ ability to get useful information by listening and reading and try to write about their school life in English. 
3 Emotional Aim: Encourage the Ss to know more about their ideal school and love their school life. 
The three aims are involved in the whole class. D. Teaching important points:  
1. Let the Ss know about Daniel’s ideal school by listening and reading. 2.  Let the Ss express themselves by speaking in groups. 3.  Let the Ss know how to write about their ideal school. E. Teaching difficult points: 
1. How to develop Ss’ abilities to listen, read, speak and write. 
2. How to cultivate Ss’ ability to select useful information in their writing.

1. Lead in. 
Before class, ask students to watch a short video about their school life.  
(I design this part with the aim of arousing Ss’ interest in learning the lesson and leading in school life.) 
A. Ask and answer about students’ school life. What time does your school start/ finish? 
How long is your lunchtime? What do you do at lunchtime? What facilities does your school have? What sports do you do at school? What after-activities do you have?  
B. Ask students to ask and answer the questions on books in pairs. 
 (I want to help the Ss think about their school life and help Ss in their writing.) C. A debate: Your likes and dislikes 
Side A: I like … because… Side B: I don’t like… Because… 
(Ask students to think about their likes and dislikes about their school life. This is helpful to them when they are writing about their ideal school.) 
Step two. Making a timetable. 
1. Show students a timetable on Monday. Ask some questions to help students to 
understand. 
2. Testing their understanding. Ask students to ask and answer questions in pairs:  
What time does the English lesson start/ finish? How long is the morning tea? 
Do students have a History lesson on Friday? 
3. Ask students to write about their own timetable in a group of four.  
 (This is to help Ss’ selecting useful information ability and help them write about their ideal school.) 
Step three. Learning a passage. 
Task 1: Listening: Listen to the tape. Put a tick(√) in the correct boxes below.

(This is to help Ss’ listening and selecting useful information ability.) Task 2: Read Para 1, Ask and answer questions in pairs:  
1. Does Daniel have much time for after-school activities? 
2. How long is his school day ?  
Task 3: Read Para 2, ask and answer in pairs:  
1. Where can Daniel eat lunch?  2.What else can Daniel do at lunchtime? Task 4: 
Read Para 3 and 4 and say T or F:  
1. We have Maths and computer studies every day. 2. We wear school uniform and ties. 3. The park is in the middle of the school. 
4. We can read useful books and swim at school.                                Task 5: Read Para 5 ,fill in blanks:  
We can join many_____ and after-school________. We only have ________ of homework every day. We don’t do it at ________. We go on a school_____to a ________or a theatre every month. 
(In this way, Ss have the chances to work in pairs. It can also help them understand and know more about ideal school and get the ideas about how to write about school life.) Step four. Practise reading the passage. 
1. Read the passage with the tape. 2. Match the paragraphs and headings:

3. Ask Ss to read the passage aloud individually. 4. Ask Ss to read the passage together. 
(These parts help Ss to read and understand the passage well and know the structure in writing.) 
5. Consolidation. Ask students to finish a close.

Step five. Writing 
1. Show students some pictures about schools. Ask them to talk about the writing plan for 
their ideal school?

2. Discussion: Ask students to talk about the details about their ideal school in groups of 
four.  
(The aim of these parts is to let Ss discuss in groups about their ideal school life. It is good for their speaking and writing.) 
3. Ask students to write about their school life in 5 minutes. 
(The design is to help Ss to use English to think and express themselves.) 
Step six. Presentation of the Ss’ writing. 
1.Show 2 or 3 Ss’ writing on the screen. Ask Ss to read their writing and try to find out the mistakes.  
2.Ask Ss to mark each other’s writing in groups and correct their writing. 
(The design is to help Ss to learn from each other and help each other in their study.) 
Step seven Summary  
1. In this lesson we know how to write about ideal school. Give students a sentence as a gift: 
Love your school , love our life and work hard!  2. Summarize the group work. Which group did best?  
(I design this part to make a summary about this lesson, advise Ss to love school and our life .Encourage them to work hard and to judge their group work.) 
Step eight Homework 
1. Recite this passage. 
2. Talk to your family members about your ideal school in English. 
(To revise the words and phrases in the text and practice reading and speaking after class.)
