Material analysis: 
This reading material is introducing some key information about online shopping. The passage is easy to understand. This is a good reading material for students to get some basic knowledge, also improve their logical,creative and critical comprehension, that is to say, students can make use of the material to read for 
information, read for speaking and read for thinking. This passage contains the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping. The structure of the passage is clear for students to imitate, they can write a similar passage after reading.  
Students analysis: 
Students in Grade 7 have basic vocabulary to understand the passage. It may not be very difficult for them to read this passage. The teacher can guide students to read with the help of some reading strategies.  
Students in Grade 7 may be interested to read a passage about online shopping, because they may have real experiences about shopping oline. 
Students in Grade 7 have learned many reading strategies, such as predicting, skimming , scanning, therefore, it’s not difficult to do these activities during the class. 
Students in Grade 7 have divergent thinking to think more after reading.  Teaching objectives: 
     By the end of this session, most students will be able to acquire the information about online shopping and understand the targeted reading material. They can learn the advantages and disadvantages about online shopping. Meanwhile, students may be able to predict what online shopping will be like in the future and they will think of some ways to keep a balance of online shopping and offline shopping. Their thinking abilities will be developed. These will be achieved by the following: 
1. Teach the students to apply the basic reading strategies to understand the passage, such as predicting, 
skimming, scanning and guessing the meaning of the new words from the context. 
2. Ask students to have some reading practice, e.g. read the passage for key information of advantages and 
disadvantages, predict shopping in the future . 
3. Lead students to discuss with the group members and have a debate.  
The discussion with group members is very helpful for students to get more ideas. After discussion, students will be able to have a debate between online shopping and offline shopping. They will give many reasons to support their idea. It’s also a way to put what they have learned from reading into use.  
Learning and teaching focus: 
1. Have a good understanding of the reading material by using some basic reading strategies and some reading 
practices. 
2. Read the passage for information, speaking and thinking. 
Anticipated difficulties: 
1. It may be difficult for students to improve the logical thinking, critical thingking and creative thinking. Solutions: 
1. Use the reading material to help students learn some basic information about online shopping. Lead students 
to discuss in groups and share some critical or creative thinking with each other. A debate is prepared for them to show their ideas and improve their reading and speaking abilities.

Methodology 
Warming-up and lead in 
(About 3 minutes) 
1. The teacher greets the students and has a free talk with students by asking about some places to go shopping, and things they can buy online.  
It is designed to guide students to get close to the topic of this reading and arouse students interests in learning English. It leads to the reading material naturally.  Pre-reading 
(About 4 minutes) 
2. Lead students to talk about the title and the pictures(Online shopping).  
(Students may find it easy to talk about the pictures or title, the teacher can help students to have more confidence to read.) 
Teacher helps students to express their own ideas about online shopping before reading by aksing a question: Is online shopping good or bad?  
The title and pictures will be well used to predict the passage, which may make the reading easier to understand. As one of the most important reading strategies in reading class, it can stimulate students desire for reading.   
While- reading (About 22 minutes) 
3.Scan the passage and get the information about:  
1. What is online shopping?  2. How to shop online?          choose it  
How?    pay for it  
         receive it 
4.Scan the 2nd and 3rd paragraph to get the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping.

5.Scan the rest part of the passage and think about the following questions: 
It is aimed to lead students to have an basic understanding of online shopping and arouse their interests to know more about it through reading. It helps to develop the ability to acquire information and the ability to accumulate reading strategies.  
Scanning is used to help students to get some detailed information and get ready for the further reading and thinking. It can develop the 
students’ ability of logical thinking and help them to get the key information effectively.    
It develops students’ ability to 
guess the meaning of new words by the context.

detailed information also students can prepare some languages for further thinking.    
A prediction about future is prepared to develop students’ creative thinking and help them to have deep thinking after reading. There won’t be fixed answers about the question. All kinds of different ideas will be appreciated.

(About 15 minutes) 
7.A debate:  
Will online shopping replace offline shopping? (1) First lead students to choose their opinions 
and divide them into two groups. (2) Lead students to discuss with group 
members for some reasons to support their opinions. 
(3) Encourage students to show their ideas in 
the debate.  8.Solutions: 
How can we keep a balance (平衡) of online shopping and offline shopping? 
Encourage students to think of more solutions of the problem.  
9.Ways of shopping 
 Introduce other ways of shopping,such as newspaper shopping, TV shopping and VR shopping.   
A debate can enable students to have a cooperative learning and develop their ability of thinking and analyzing. It stimulates students’ desire for thinking, it can also open up students’ eyes and minds. 
Students put what they have learned into use and their logical, critical and creative thinking will be delevoped greatly.  
Students will discuss for some 
solutions to solve the problem. And it can develop their awareness to solve problems with knowledge.  
It opens students’ eyes to know more about shopping ways.Lead them to search for information 
about VR shopping after reading.    
Homework(about 1mintue) 
1. Read a passage about VR shopping. 
2. Search for more information about VR shopping.       Students will read a similar passage as homework. This assignment is designed for students to make use of the reading strategies they have learned.
