一、Teaching background 
1、Analysis of the teaching material 
The lesson is Unit 1 of module 6 in book 7 of New English Standard. It is mainly about Lingling can play football well. 2、Analysis of the teaching aims 
Knowledge aims: students can read and write the new words like “well、catch” and the sentence patterns like “Can you...? Yes, I can / No, I can’t. 
Ability aims: students can use the sentence patterns in their daily life flexibly. 
Emotional aims: students’ interests will be cultivated and they will learn how to do more sports and keep healthy.  3、Analysis of the key points and the difficult points 
Key points: the new words like “well、catch” and the sentence patterns like “Can you...? Yes, I can / No, I can’t. 
Difficult points: the use of the sentence patterns  4、Analysis of the students 
The students in Grade 5 have a basic knowledge of English. And they are eager to learn something new. So, I will use some 
 
                    
             
                    
                            activities to encourage them speaking out. 二、Teaching and learning methods 
I will mainly use peer evaluation and teacher evaluation in the class to help students make a effective feedback. I will mainly adopt Task-based teaching methods、audio-lingual methods and situational teaching methods to arouse students passion of learning English. During teaching process, I will mainly use pictures、 type recorder and PPT as my teaching tools. 
三、Teaching procedures Step 1  Lead-in 
1、Set a situation about “we will have a sports meeting next week” and divide the whole class into 4 groups.  
2、Show some pictures about sports to show some actions such as run fast、 jump high and so on and have a free talk with the students. Then let students talk about them. If the student do it well, he or she will get an apple. 
3、Play a chant and let students sing it together. “Run, run, I can run.  Jump, jump, I can jump.      Swim, swim, I can swim.      Sports, sports, I can do a lot.” 
 
                    
             
                    
                               [The purpose is to have a revision and arouse students’ interests.]  
Step 2  Presentation 
    1、Present a picture about Yaoming playing basketball and have a free talk with students to show the sentence “He can play basketball very well.” And let students pay attention to the new word “well”. The students will read the word by high and low voice. 
2、Present another picture about a boy playing basketball and ask students “Can he play basketball well?”. After that play the radio and let students listen carefully then answer the question. After that guide students answer it and let students pay attention to the sentence patterns “Can you...? Yes, I can / No, I can’t.”. 
 3、Show a ball and pass the ball to a students to show the sentence patterns “ I can pass the ball well. You can catch the ball well.”. Then I will let students play a little game “ pass and catch the ball” using the sentence patterns “ I can pass the ball well. I can catch the ball well.”. 
4、Let students listen the radio. Before listening, I will set some questions.  
Q1: Can Lingling catch the ball well? Q2: Can she pass the ball well? 
Then choose some students answer them and we will check it together. If the student answer it correctly, he or she will get an apple. 
5、Play the radio again and show a form. Then let students choose true or false and we will check it together. If the student answer it correctly, he or she will get an apple. 
Sports Lingling Run fast × Jump high √ Play football well √ 
 
[The purpose is to practice students listening skills.] Step 3  Practice 
    1、Prepare some cards to show the new words. And show it quickly and let students guess what it is? Praise the students who answer it correctly. 
2、Present some pictures about sports meeting to show some actions such as run fast、jump high and so on. And let students play a guessing game with their partners using the sentence pattern “You can... .” and “Yes, I can... .” Then choose some students to show their dialogues. 
 
                    
             
                    
                            3、Play the type again and let students read after the type. After familiar with the text, students will be asked to act out the dialogue. 
[The purpose is to practice the new words and new sentence patterns we learnt today.] Step 4  Consolidation 
    1、Set a situation about “ join in the sports meeting”. Each group will be asked to make a list together to talk about what you can do using the sentence patterns we learnt today. 
2、Choose some groups show their lists using the sentence patterns we learnt today . If the students do it correctly, they will get some apples. 
[The purpose is to let students use the language in the real situation.] Step 5  Summary 
    I will have a summary to review the words and sentences we learnt today. Step 6  Homework 
1、Read after the type and familiar the text. 
2、Ask your families join in our sports meeting then make a survey about What they can do.  四、Teaching reflection
